Gum Acacia Seyal is the other commercially significant species in the Gum Arabic family, sourced from Acacia seyal (Family: Fabaceae) of African origin. Ashapura Proteins Limited processes it through the same method as the Senegal variety — water dissolution, ultra-cleaning, and spray drying — producing a yellow to off-white powder that is odorless and tasteless. Purity conforms to E414/FSSAI specifications, with moisture loss capped at 10%, total ash no more than 4%, and pH between 4 and 5 in a 25% solution. Heavy metal limits comply with applicable FSSAI and international food additive specifications for INS/E414 — arsenic under 3 mg/kg, lead under 2 mg/kg, mercury and cadmium each under 1 mg/kg. The product is free from detectable starch and tannin impurities, and freely soluble in water, forming a clear to slightly hazy solution.
The physical data is where Seyal diverges from its Senegal counterpart. Its specific optical rotation is positive — +35° to +60° — versus the negative range seen in Senegal, a well-known chemical distinction between the two species. Colour tolerance is 4° to 10° Lovibond, and Granulometry requires a minimum of 90% of particles below 200 μm. Minimum viscosity is 60 cPs (25% solution at 25°C). Microbiologically, Seyal carries a stricter total viable count limit of under 1,000 cfu/g, tighter than the 2,000 cfu/g ceiling on Senegal, with yeasts and moulds under 100 cfu/g and both E. coli and Salmonella negative. Packed in 25 kg multilayer kraft paper bags with inner food-grade polyethylene liner, it stores at room temperature with a shelf life of 4 years under recommended storage conditions. Regulatory identifiers are INS/E414, CAS No. 9000-01-5, and HS Code 1301.20.00. The product is Non-GMO, Gluten Free, Allergen Free, and Vegan Suitable, with applications spanning flavour encapsulation, wine and beverage stabilization, and confectionery and pharmaceutical coatings.
Gum Acacia or Gum Arabic (E414)
Water dissolution followed by ultra-cleaning and spray drying.
Gum Arabic consists mainly of high molecular weight polysaccharides, and their calcium, magnesium and potassium salts which on hydrolysis yield Arabinose, Rhamnose, Galactose and Glucuronic.
